Ninja Combat Styles

Basics

In the world of Naruto different people use different types of skills for combat, depending on their preference they master different sorts of combat styles or they just focus on a single fighting style in which they become true masters of the trade. There are eight combat styles, all with their different weaknesses and benefits. Some will want to focus on only one fighting style, while others will focus on numerous ones. What will you do? Those who are not shinobi will be unable to use some styles and for them we do have a special treat.

Combat Styles - Shinobi:

•Taijutsu

•Ninjutsu

•Genjutsu

•Medical

•Sensory

•Weaponry (including Kenjutsu)

•Fuuinjutsu

•Puppetry

Levels

Each combat style has certain levels which tell us how good you are with those skills. There are three levels of mastery which one can reach and when one reaches the final level they gain full mastery over that combat style or profession. These levels are Basic, Adept and Mastery.

Basic:
The basic level is the lowest possible level which one can have in a combat style. At this level one possesses the most basic skills with that combat style and having basic in a combat style means that you tend to use that combat style rarely and it isn't something that you focus on. If you do focus on it, it means that you just started and that you still need a lot of practice to fully master it.

Adept:
At this level one had gained a higher level of skill in a combat style. At this level certain bonuses are unlocked that actually give their user a edge in battle. This level of skill means that you tend to use that combat style a lot, but you still need some more practice to unlock its fullest potential. During most of time the combat style in which are on an adept level are those that you use when you don't use your main fighting style.

Mastery:
Finally, you have mastered your usage of a certain combat style, you know everything that is to know about that type of skill. Only those who possess this same level can match you when it comes to that combat style. Not only that, the benefits at this level of mastery are far more useful than on the previous level. Focusing on one combat style and reaching this level is rewarding. But, at the same time, if you focus on just one skill might be unfavorable for you as one could use their variety to easily overcome your mastery in just one combat style.

Starting Combat Styles

Everyone starts with a couple of starting combat styles and from there they can continue improving their skills and growing. What you do and which combat styles you get is something that you must decide and nobody can make that decision for you as you are the one who knows which skills suit them the most.

Calculation:
2 Basics = 1 Adept
2 Adept = 1 Mastery
4 Basics = 1 Mastery

Shinobi
Genin = 4 Basics
Chuunin = 5 Basics
Spec. Jounin = 6 Basics
Jounin = 7 Basics
Kage = 8 Basics
S-Rank Kage/Jounin = 10 Basics

Bonuses:
+1 Basic for having no Clan/Bloodline
+1 Basic for having no starting element
Civilians DO NOT benefit from these bonuses!

Combat Styles (Complex)

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu (忍術; Literally meaning "Ninja Techniques"), is a term referring to almost any technique and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are real. They vary greatly in purpose, with the simpler ninjutsu serving such tasks as transforming the user or allowing them to evade attacks. These techniques are often second-nature for experienced shinobi, who can use them at will. breakfast

N/A - Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E and D rank, the most basic skills that every shinobi must have. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Ninjutsu techniques, one must first gain the Basic level.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B, A and S Ranked techniques of Ninjutsu typing. Indeed, at this level they learn how they have skill in this area and so they are able to use Ninjutsu of all kinds.

At this level, the shinobi has become moderately familiar with hand signs and can tell when a person is using any elements that the user already possesses. If the user already knows the technique being used against him/her, he/she can tell possibly before the hand signs are even completed if the set of hand signs is long and complex [5 Hand seals+].

Their hand seal speed equals Taijutsu Basic speed, so they can finish one or two seals before getting hit by a punch.

Adept - Those of this level can learn Ninjutsu techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. At this level, familiarity with hand signs is more noticeable.

Because of his/her knowledge of hand signs, the user is capable of conducting them at a faster pace than their lower counterparts, that members of this level can do hand seals at a blurry rate, same as the level of speed at which Taijutsu Adepts move, they can complete series of seals before a Basic can punch them and a seal or two before an adept punches them.

At this level, chakra control and execution is heightened. In other words, users begin to waste less chakra on their techniques, therefore using less chakra for the same desired effects. Ninjutsu up to Rank B cost half the amount of chakra to conduct.

Mastery - A Ninjutsu master is highly advanced with these physical arts for their ranking. At his level, ninjutsu users are very familiar with molding chakra and the hand signs used to do so.

Because of such, their hand signs are much faster than the normal persons, their hands move kinda hard for anyone in particular to follow, unless they are of a same level in specific other Combat Specs. They can easily do a ton of seals before a Basic or less can punch them, a couple of them before an Adept could punch them and maybe one or two before a Master could punch them. Their hand seal speed equals the speed of Taijutsu Masters.

Not only that at this level of specialization, the user is capable of utilizing chakra to an even higher degree and executing techniques more easily. At this level, ninjutsu up to Rank B only use one fourth of the typical amount of chakra. Ninjutsu of higher ranks, up to S-Rank, cost half the chakra amount required.

Taijutsu

Taijutsu (体術; Literally meaning "Body Techniques") is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally require no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are much quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is simply put: hand-to-hand combat.

b]N/A[/b] - Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E and D rank, since every human can punch someone or kick them. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Taijutsu techniques, one must first gain the Basic level.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B, A and S Ranked techniques of Taijutsu typing. The ones with this level of skills in their hand to hand combat are naturally faster and stronger than those who are not trained in these arts. Indeed, Taijutsu is an art which one uses their body as a weapon and in order for one to become better in this art they need to make their attacks stronger and faster than others.

Due to that, those of this level can move somewhat faster than those who do not have any skill in Taijutsu, others can still follow their movements and dodge them without any special technique, but there is a speed difference. Slower people can still see your movements, but they are somewhat of a blur.

Their blows can now cause bruises and cause cracks on rocks and trees which are as big as they are. In close combat, they can stop people from finishing hand seals, that is unless their opponents have a Basic in Ninjutsu.

Adept - Those of this level can learn Taijutsu techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. At this level they gain something new, the ability to start with learning how to open the Chakra Gates. But, at this level they can only open up to the Third Chakra Gate. Like true martial artists they can target the joints or any other weak points that a body has, although they are not medics and do not quite know how the body functions, they do know how to land a blow where it really hurts.

Also, those with this level of skill have advanced their strength and speed to a much higher level than than before and so their level of speed and strength has increased to a whole new level. Now, it becomes rather hard to dodge their attacks and they are a blur, still track-able, but for anyone without a special Dojutsu it will take quite the concentration to follow them. They can easily punch a Ninjutsu Basic before said can perform any seal.

The difference between a Taijutsu Basic and Adept is like the difference between someone without Taijutsu and a Basic Taijutsu user.

Their punches and kicks can crush rocks which are as large as they are and they can crush tree trunks causing trees to fall with one attack. Due to that, outrunning these martial art users is rather hard. Taijutsu up to Rank B costs half the amount of chakra to conduct due to their skills with their body.

Mastery - A Taijutsu master is highly advanced with these physical arts for their ranking. At his level, taijutsu users are very familiar with their own body and its secrets so they are capable of opening all of the Chakra Gates. Of course, not even they can survive the side-effects of opening the Eight Chakra Gate and so they will die if they dare to do so.

Finally they have managed to bring their body up to a level at which their speed and strength is as high as it can get. Their speed compared to that of others who do not have any skill in this area is quite amazingly fast, they are a complete blur for other, still somewhat visible, yet hard to actually do anything about without a Mastery in some other Combat Spec. Sure, people with low skills can do something about their speed by using traps or reacting before a Master gets to them, but in close combat it becomes quite hard to dodge their attacks.

Their punches and kicks can crush rocks which are two times bigger than they are and when they hit something that it is made out of iron it will somewhat bend, that is if it ain't as thick as the walls of a building. They can't actually kill you, unless they snap your neck, which is obviously going to kill anyone.

At this level, Taijutsu up to Rank B only use one fourth of the typical amount of chakra. Taijutsu of higher ranks, up to S-Rank, cost half the chakra amount required.

The difference between a Taijutsu Master and a Taijutsu Adept is the same as the difference between a Taijutsu Adept and a Basic.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu (幻術; Literally meaning "Illusionary Techniques") are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses. This is often used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation.

N/A - Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only techniques of E and D rank, the most basic skills that every shinobi must have. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Genjutsu techniques, one must first gain the Basic level. Also, without any special training in this area they can only target ones sense of vision and cause simple ocular illusions. Ninja of this level have basic understanding of genjutsu Kai, and can break up to C rank genjutsu's with it. Anything higher requires some sort of pain

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B, A and S Ranked techniques of Genjutsu typing. Genjutsu users at this level are capable of much more complex level so their illusions can target two senses and they can cast two Genjutsus at the same time, one over a other. Still, since their illusions are still in a developing state, if one cancels out one of those illusions, they would cancel the other one as well. Illusionists are people of a sharp mind which is needed to perform illusions, so they are more intelligent that those who do not work with illusions. At this Basic level the difference is small, but one can notice how they do possess more knowledge than others. Ninja at this stage have a better grasp of genjutsu, and the inner workings of genjutsu kai. They can still only break up to C rank genjutsu with it, but higher amounts require much less pain than before.

Adept - Those of this level can learn Genjutsu techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. At this level they gain something new, the ability to cast up to three Genjutsus at the same time, so even if their foe cancels one or two, the third one will still be cast upon them until they realize that they have been tricked. The amount of senses which can be targeted is three at this level. Basically, an Adept illusionist can trick your vision into seeing something that is not there, while at the same time the noises which that thing makes and its smell. At this level one possesses a even larger level of intelligence, close to the level of a genius. They could make perfect illusions of humans, replicating everything. Genjutsu up to Rank B costs half the amount of chakra to conduct due to their skills with their mind. Ninja have a firm grasp of chakra control and genjutsu manipulation. Ninja have a firm grasp of chakra control and genjutsu manipulation. They can use genjutsu kai more effectively, disrupting the genjutsu flow up to B rank, with still the same pain amount as previously stated.

Mastery - A Genjutsu master is a highly advanced illusionist, those of this class can trick people into doing whatever they want using the simplest illusions. At this level they gain a old skill on a higher level, the ability to cast up to three Genjutsus at the same time turns into four, so getting out of their illusions becomes rather hard, since one has to cancel out four illusions. There is no limit to the amount of senses which can be targeted, if they wished to, they could target all of their opponents senses. Of course, all of these abilities would require a lot of chakra, since only the most powerful illusions can effect that much senses. At this level, Genjutsu up to Rank B only use one fourth of the typical amount of chakra. Genjutsu of higher ranks, up to S-Rank, cost half the chakra amount required. Ones possessing this level are pretty much geniuses. True masters of the understanding of genjutsu, can use genjutsu kai to break out of genjutsu up to A rank, and sufficiently less pain to break out of genjutsu of a higher rank.

Note: You must still purchase Genjutsu Kai.

Ijutsu (Medical Techniques)

Medical Ninjutsu (医療忍術, Iryō Ninjutsu; Literally meaning "Medical Ninja Techniques") is a branch of ninjutsu associated with healing, as well as the manipulation of their own, or anothers' body, practised by shinobi categorised as "medical-nin". The use of medical ninjutsu requires very good chakra control, as well as extensive knowledge on such things as herbs, medicines, the human body and even poisons.

N/A - Not having Ijutsu as a combat style means that you cannot use these skills. These arts are too advanced, so someone who is not skilled with them in any way should not even try using them.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B, A and S Ranked techniques of Ijutsu typing. They have moderately improved their chakra control due to the fact that they have just started with learning this wonderful skill, there is still so much for them to learn. At this level they know the basics of medicine such as the locations of all the organs in the human body, the names and locations of bones and how each organ functions. They are still not ready to perform operations on someone due to their limited knowledge and the fact that they are limited to covering only one of their hands with medical chakra. Using medical techniques to heal others or to fix broken bones is what they can do and pretty much what they should stick to. You could say that, at this level, they are like nurses.

Adept - Those of this level can learn Ijutsu techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. Now they have improved their chakra control to a even higher level. Ijutsu up to Rank B costs half the amount of chakra to conduct due to their great knowledge. At this level they are like doctors, they can perform basic surgeries, such as fixing inner injuries and healing organs using their medical techniques which got even more power. Now they can cover both of their hands with medical chakra and use feats such as a Chakra Scalpel with both hands. Still, there is a lot that they need to learn, their knowledge is limited to all of the information that they gained before, from the Basic level, and the information on all the basic diseases and viruses.

Mastery - a Ijutsu Masters are surgeons of the shinobi world, capable of performing any operation in and kind of condition, even during a battle. Masters know everything that there is to know about the human anatomy and how ones body functions, they can transplant organs and heal injuries sustained from the drawbacks caused by the Inner Gates or any other Kinjutsu that damages the body. At this level, Ijutsu up to Rank B only use one fourth of the typical amount of chakra. Ijutsu of higher ranks, up to S-Rank, cost half the chakra amount required. Ones possessing this level are pretty much geniuses.

Sensory

A sensor (感知タイプ, Kanchi taipu; Literally meaning "Perception type") is a type of ninja that is capable of detecting the presence of other people through their chakra. A skilled sensor can detect their targets from a great distance, as well as differentiate the characters by their chakra signature alone. They are even able to tell when other sensors are using their abilities. Some are able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and even use sensory skills in a way that they are even able to tell if their targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra.

N/A - Not having sensory as a combat style means that you cannot use these skills. These arts are too advanced, so someone who is not skilled with them in any way should not even try using them.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B Ranked techniques of sensory typing. They have moderately improved their chakra control due to the fact that they have just started with learning this tactful skill, there is still so much for them to learn. At this level they know the basics of sensing such as the ability to detect familiar presences medium distances away, or know when they themselves are being sensed. They are still not combat ready in performing sensory, as its more of a trait than a skill at this point. At this level, they can only sense targets a medium distance away, something around 100 yards at best, and no actual way to different targets unless they are familiar to you. As Basic Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Basic Hunter civilians.

Adept - Those of this level can learn sensory techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. Now they have improved their chakra control to a even higher level. Sensory techniques have an increased range, up to 300 yards. At this level they are combat ready, and considered somewhat talented in this area. They are able to hide there presence for the most part, however it is still yet unrefined, and they cannot use any skills or jutsu's when hiding there presence. They can detect different elemental users at this stage, but only if they've encountered them before. They are knowledgeable at this stage, able to see and detect other sensors, not just when those sensors are sensing. As Adept Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Adept Hunter civilians.

Mastery - Sensory Masters are the best trackers of the shinobi world, capable of performing any operation in and kind of condition, even during a battle. Masters know all of the little secrets one can preform to maximize there stealth and sensing abilities. At this level, they can spread there abilities out to 500 yards, they can discern between chakra signatures of shinobi from different populations. They are able to tell exactly who is among a crowd of people and there sensory skills are such that they are even able to tell if there targets are lying based on any fluctuation of their chakra. Its not only sensing, they are able to mask there presence to all but contact style sensing techniques. Masters are, to such extent that they are able avoid detection by traditional sensory techniques, but can be sensed through other means such as contact type sensory techniques. At this stage, they are able to discern A rank and below genjutsu near instantly, and can tell negative and positive emotions through sensing. As Master Sensory, you are capable of masking your presence from Master Hunter civilians.

Weaponry/Kenjutsu

Weaponry is the art of using different tools and weapons. Most weapon users tend to focus on only one weapon, while others combine different types of weapons in order to overwhelm their foe with their variety. Weaponry can be used in combination with taijutsu, ninjutsu, chakra flow and even genjutsu in order to achieve more devastating techniques. The two most common types of weaponry are Shuriknejutsu and Kenjutsu
Kenjutsu (剣術; Literally meaning "Sword Technique") pertains to techniques that entail the use of swords, whether the users be shinobi or samurai.
Shurikenjutsu (手裏剣術; Literally meaning "sword hidden in the hand techniques") pertains to techniques that entail the throwing of shuriken, kunai, senbon or any other of a number of bladed, hand-held weapons.

Note: Chakra Flow techniques do not require chakra conductive materials ($50,000) if one possesses a Weaponry Spec. The ability to coat a weapon in a particular affinity, such as "Wind Release: Vacuum Blade" or "Fire Release: Nail Crimson" does not require chakra conductive metal. Thus, if you possess a Weaponry Spec on any level, you can coat your weaponry in chakra with specific techniques.

N/A - Not having any skill in this area limits a Shinobi to only to basic weapons and techniques of E and D rank, the most basic skills that every shinobi must have. If they wish to learn any of the higher leveled Weaponry techniques, one must first gain the Basic level.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B, A and S Ranked techniques of weaponry typing. You can channel chakra trough the weapons which you use, but that chakra is lost after usage. At basic level your dexterity and accuracy are at a more improved level and your speed with waving a weapon is much faster than the speed of anyone else who does not possess this level of skill with weapons.

Basically, when handling a weapon, your skills equal a Taijutsu Basic when it comes to speed and power. Not only that, your vision is good enough to track Adepts in different skills. [Starting money budget of 75 000 ryo which you can use to buy your weapons]

Adept - Those of this level can learn weaponry techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. At this level, compared to those who do not have any skill in weaponry your dexterity, speed and accuracy when handling a weapon are increased to the level of a Taijutsu Adept.

Not only that, now you can use weapons with all sorts of abilities. When channeling chakra through your weapons [by using Hien or similar techniques, stuff like Cloud Style Flame Beheading or such which blast the chakra are not affected by this bonus] you do not have to waste it, it travels in a circular motion, between the weapon and your body there is a circular connection due to which you do not waste chakra when channeling chakra through your weapons. [Starting money budget of 100 000 ryo which you can use to buy your weapons]

Mastery - At this level, compared to those who do not have any skill in weaponry your dexterity, speed and accuracy when handling a weapon are increased to Taijutsu Mastery level.

People with this level are said to have the eyes of a hawk due to their great accuracy which allows them to even hit moving targets faster than they are, they can even track someone going up to the 5th Gate or higher with enough focus. [The ryo bonus at this level is of 125 000 ryo.]

Fuinjutsu

Fūinjutsu (封印術; Literally meaning "Sealing Techniques") are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. An imbalance is created when an odd-numbered seal is placed on top of an even-numbered seal and vice-versa.

N/A - Without Fuinjutsu, at least the basic level, he only sealing that you can do is use the generic sealing method and seal weapons into a scroll. You can't do this in a battle though, you don't have the skill for that.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B Ranked techniques of Fuinjutsu typing. You still need to write the symbols with either ink of some kind or with your own blood and you can only write them on paper. At this moment you can only seal chakra and inanimate objects, nothing else. Your skill is still not good enough for being used in battles though as it takes some time to write the seals onto the paper. Also, those who are the users of this are are quite wise, wiser than any other person and they got knowledge of all canon techniques of their element, even those which they do not know how to use. Meaning, if there is a fire release user who only knows the great fireball technique, he will also have all the important details related to all canon fire techniques.

Adept - Those of this level can learn Funjutsu techniques of all levels, including the powerful SS-Ranked ones. You still need to write the symbols with either ink of some kind or with your own blood, but you can write them on any surface and not just paper. At this moment you can seal chakra, inanimate objects and living beings. The only thing that your seals won't affect are summons and chakra monsters like the tailed beasts. You can use your skills in battle since now you can write seals quite rapidly, in a matter of seconds you an complete most of the complex seals. Now you got knowledge of all canon techniques of your element, even those which they do not know how to use, and up to B-Rank canon techniques of all other elements. Funjutsu up to Rank B costs half the amount of chakra to conduct.

Mastery - Now you can write seals using chakra, ink, blood or any other substance, you can make them form even in the middle of the air, or on any other surface, you can seal everything and you can form complex seals in just a single second. You have knowledge of all canon elemental techniques up to the rank of A and all of the canon techniques of your element. At this level, Funjutsu up to Rank B only use one fourth of the typical amount of chakra. Funjutsu of higher ranks, up to S-Rank, cost half the chakra amount required.

Puppetry

Puppetry is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. While most puppeteers (傀儡使い, kugutsutsukai) would normally be able to control ten puppets at most (one per finger), one can use the Human Puppetry technique on their own body to increase the amount of puppets which they can control.

N/A - you cannot use puppetry in any way, nor can you form chakra strings.

Basic - At Basic level one can learn E, D, C, B Ranked techniques of Puppetry typing and you can make puppets up to B rank. Your puppets speed equals the speed of someone with Taijutsu basic, while your dexterity and accuracy equals the dexterity and accuracy of a weapon user who specializes in one sort of weaponry. 75 000 ryo starting budget.

Adept - at this level you can use puppets of all levels, use puppetry techniques of all level and all of your puppets move with the speed of a Taijutsu Adept user. Also, your accuracy and dexterity are on the level of a weapon user with adept level who is specialized in a certain line of weaponry. The ryo bonus at this level is of 100 000 ryo. Adept Puppeteers can use only 6 puppets.

Mastery - Only on this level a puppet user can use and make Human Puppets, with at least adept in medic they can even transform their own body into the body of a puppet. Your puppets move with the speed of a Taijutsu Mastery user. Also, your accuracy and dexterity are on the level of a weapon user specialized in a certain line of weaponry and on the mastery level. The ryo bonus at this level is of 125 000 ryo. Puppeteers on this level can control 10 puppets, or more if they turn their own body into a puppet and learn a specific technique that allows them to control more than 10 puppets.
